1. The price
If you decide to go to Hungary, it is to save money. The dental work done there should be between 30 and 60% of the UK rate, so that it will always cost you less, once you have paid for transportation and accommodation.
2. Safety and hygiene standards
A clinic must have a number of certifications and licenses in order to operate. Here's what you need to check.
The ISO standards
ISO standards are under the control of the International Organization for Standardization, which means that they are international certifications. They take into account:
- management principles ;
- level of quality of care;
- hygiene;
- the technicality and modernity of the equipment;
- environmental quality;
- the competence of the personnel.
The CE standards
The Conformité Européenne (CE) standards apply to all countries of the European Union, including Hungary. These standards apply to dental office equipment, as well as to the materials used (implants, amalgams, ceramics, etc.).
ANTSZ (Az Állami Népegészségügyi és Tisztiorvosi Szolgálat) standards
The ANTSZ standards correspond to the Hungarian national standards, issued by the Hungarian Ministry of Public Health and Physicians.
Hygiene
Hungary is generally a country where hygiene is irreproachable and this is the case for its dental practices. Clinics that specialize in the care of foreigners take special care in this regard in order to earn the best international reputation.
All Hungarian dental clinics use methods that ensure health safety:
- disposable accessories: gloves, needles, masks, etc. ;
- specific containers for disposable accessories;
- Systematic sterilization of medical instruments, as well as of patient equipment: chair, spittoon, etc.
- ultrasonic cleaning for the sterilization of certain equipment;
- ongoing maintenance of dental equipment.
3. Training of medical teams
All Hungarian dental professionals have the same training as the English dentists. Their level is just as good as their european counterparts, whether they are dentists, orthodontists, dental surgeons, stomatologists, as is that of the teams that assist them.
4. Care equipment and raw materials
Dental practices work with the same suppliers as English dentists and many other nationalities. The suppliers are international companies that are among the world leaders, such as the Swiss Nobel Care, or the American Dentsply Sirona.
As for the equipment, ask about the quality of the facilities, but you will see that the consultation rooms, like the operating theatres, are very similar to the british infrastructures.
5. Reception and follow-up
You should be welcomed with a staff that speaks fluent English. It is essential that you communicate well with your dentist and his or her team.
If your dentist does not speak English, you will have a consultant who will take care of the translations. It is essential that you be able to express your needs and feelings, and your dentist must be able to explain the steps of the treatment and the follow-up that you must have once you return home.
You can judge the quality of the clinic during your first contacts, when you request a quote by email. You will notice the reactivity of your interlocutors, as well as the application with which they answer all your requests.
6. The after-sales service
Make sure you get a guarantee, no matter what care you get. If a denture is not properly sealed, an appliance is poorly designed or simply does not fit properly, or if one of your crowns breaks, you should be able to count on an after-sales service that will repair the damage free of charge.
7. The organization of your trip
The clinic can offer you a service that includes travel and accommodation. It's a nice little extra, so you don't have to worry about the logistics.
Hungarian clinics that specialize in care for foreigners often offer this option, which brings you a lot of convenience, and can also provide additional savings, as the practices can get wholesale rates from providers with discounts that are not available to you.
