Discover the benefits of red wine on the gums

Thanks to technical advances and studies on wine, we know that the polyphenols contained in red wine fight heart disease, contain anti-cancer properties and slow the progression of certain neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's.
Another study adds to these and reveals that red wine acts effectively on the bacteria responsible for the formation of periodontitis, caries and dental plaque. In fact, wine would be good for teeth and gums.
Wine and gum health: a Spanish study provides information
Consumed in great moderation, this alcoholic beverage is good for the heart, the brain, and we now know that it is also beneficial for the teeth and gums.
The Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry published a study led by Spanish researchers concluding that wine contains molecules called: polyphenols.
The antioxidant character of polyphenols is beneficial for humans. It limits the harmful effects of free radicals on the body and controls the presence of certain bacteria in the body.

The benefits of polyphenols on teeth and gums
Two polyphenols were isolated from red wine and studied by the research team: paracoumaric acid and caffeic acid. In fact, they have revealed their characteristics: they regulate the bacteria responsible for the appearance of cavities, dental plaque and certain diseases that affect the gums.
Indeed, these bacteria are blocked by these two polyphenols in their attachment process on the oral cells. Much more beneficial, these molecules combined with the probiotic Streptococcus Dentisani are more effective in eliminating these bacteria.
That said, the very promising results of the study should not encourage the consumption of red wine, but pave the way for the development of more effective oral treatments such as toothpastes and mouthwashes.
