The specific gel contains an active ingredient which is either carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. Upon contact with tooth enamel, peroxide triggers a chemical oxidation reaction that attacks the staining compounds that dull your teeth.

Carbamide peroxide is a weaker version of hydrogen peroxide. It's all a matter of dosage, but the result is the same. However, you must make sure that the concentration is not too high, so as not to risk damaging your teeth.
